With summer just around the corner, why not try taking your training outdoors? You don’t need a lot of equipment to get a killer workout. Here are my top 3 pieces of light-weight equipment. All of these items can be stowed away compactly, making them easy to throw into a pack for on-the-go workouts anywhere!
TRX SUSPENSION TRAINER ($129.95) Anchor this bad boy to a door frame or tree, and get ready for one hell of a workout. Rarely do I do a workout without incorporating some exercises on the TRX. This seemingly simple apparatus allows you to perform numerous variations of pulls so it’s a great tool for back training. Suspend your legs and you’ve got lots of great options for core work too! And the list of possible and challenging exercises goes on! The TRX Suspension Trainer is a must-have for any fitness enthusiast.
SKIPPING ROPE ($3-$10) Remember being about 7 years old and skipping rope throughout recess or lunch? Have you tried doing it as an adult? It’s hard! Once you get the coordination down, you’ll quickly realize why professional martial artists, boxers, wrestlers, and other elite athletes train with it. You can incorporate skipping into circuits for a blast of high intensity cardio. With the option for various skip patterns, and even the challenging double-unders, you won’t get bored of this handy, light-weight piece of equipment!
RESISTANCE BANDS ($15+) Resistance bands come in various intensities and are a great tool for strengthening your muscles. There are a lot of different types of bands, depending on what you want to use them for. There are large circular bands used for assisted pull ups, or resistance speed training. There are small circular bands great for glute/hip work. And there are the classic straight bands with handles, awesome for all sorts of creative exercises. I recommend getting a heavy, and light to moderate straight band, along with a moderate resistance small circular band for a well rounded workout.
